Crimson Quartzite
JSC Kvarcit is a sole extractor and processor of Crimson Quartzite in the world (the stone is also known as purple porphyry or "shoksha"). We are owners of the quarry which is located in Karelia, Northern Russia on the shore of the Onega lake.
«Shoksha» was the material chosen from hundreds by Louis Visonti for sarcophagus of Napoleon Bonaparte currently exhibited in Les Invalides Museum in Paris.
In Russia crimson quartzite was used for decoration of top landmarks, such as the Hermitage, St. Isaac's Cathedral, Kazan Cathedral, Red Square, Christ the Saviour Cathedral, Russian House of Senate.
Purple porphyry has no radiation, it sustains temperatures up to 2700C and it is over four times harder than granite, polished it will maintain high gloss for six centuries.
